Words from a fashion ego-blogger

From Andy's blog Style Scrapbook
Andy Torres runs the blog Style Scrapbook and in her TEDx talk she speaks of why “ego-bloggers” - bloggers who take photos of themselves and post on the Internet - becomes such a powerful force in the fashion industry.

Ego-blogging is a growing phenomenon around the world as the importance of asserting yourself as an individual becomes more important in a world of mass market, and the demand for realism grows bigger as magazines are mostly feeding us with amazing editorial pictures of perfect models with expensive clothes. Andy says that “we want to see clothes on real people, and we want to see what people around the world is wearing. Most importantly we want to see clothes that we can afford!”.

This phenomenon, combined with the accessibility of blogging creates a growing opportunity for everyday heroes to pop up in the blogosphere. We tend to like people we can relate to, so these people, who are doing this on their own with a very limited budget, becomes the idols to look up to, as we could be those people ourselves one day.

Going from an unemployed fashion wannabe to an ego-blogger with over a million readers, she gives some advice on how your blog could grow.

  1. You need great content with professional photos! Post often, if not every day, as often as you can or people will forget about you. The moment people can relate and connect to you they will come back.
  2. You need a strong social network! Advertise yourself and tell people you are there and ask them to come to your blog. Go to all your favorite blogs and advertise yourself. Post on Twitter and Facebook as they are big traffic generators. It won’t happen over night, but your traffic will grow incrementally over time, so be persistent!
  3. Be yourself! Don’t try to copy others, because they are much better at being themselves.

First week - fully staffed!

Okay - so, first off, my name is Julian, and I work with all the technical stuff behind Tipser.

This week I finally started working on Tipser full time, joining Jonas at our Stockholm office. Up until now, we have been doing all our planning and work from our homes and at cafés around Stockholm. All this on our spare time. So it feels really good being able to focus 100% on Tipser!

To give you somewhat of a status update, this is what's going on this week (on the product-side):
  • We had a workshop to further refine our security-strategy, taking advice from a +10-years experienced network security specialist.
  • We did more planning regarding our production-environment, which we aim to take it online in the coming weeks for testing purposes.
  • We are working on finishing all the stories for our alpha release.

Now lets have a look at some pictures!

Some manual labor was required to install our white board.
We thank our helpful and handy friends at 3L-Systems
A pleasant surprise! The office is fully equipped with a gaming-station.

Making your products sell better online

Creating a buzz around your product or to get them to be recommended in social networks is a big challenge as a brand owner, designer, or marketeer. Not only should you attract the influencers online to your web site where the products are offered, you should make the offer attractive enough for them to write about your product in their blog. On top of this you need to make sure they link to your product correctly to not loose too many readers on the way.
Tipser can’t promise that your product will sell better online if you use our service, that’s entirely up to our influencers and their readers to decide, but we can promise that it’s never been easier to make them available for selling in social networks like blogs, forums, Facebook and Twitter!

We strongly believe eCommerce is best experienced socially, which is why we also believe the best product tips come from people we know or admire. Tipser makes it ridiculously easy for consumers to shop directly in social networks from blogs or friends. Tipser is opening up a new sales channel where friends and influencers can recommend your product to their friends and followers. You don’t need to pay for display adds or other marketing - the influencer recommending your product simply gets a part of the profit when a purchase is made. No risks or heavy investments needed - all in a democratic and transparent manner. Simply upload your product in the Tipser network and enjoy social commerce as it should be!

The widget will blend seamlessly in with your design, making the presentation nice and tidy. Your readers can buy the products directly from your blog without ever leaving the page, and our system takes care of remembering who sold the product to make sure you’ll get rewarded for the recommendation. Don’t worry we will never force any products to your site, it’s all based on your personal selection. We call it democratized social commerce.

On top of this, Tipser makes it ridiculously easy to share your favorite products in your social networks such as Facebook and Twitter and still letting your friends or followers shop directly from you.
