Ego-blogging is a growing phenomenon around the world as the importance of asserting yourself as an individual becomes more important in a world of mass market, and the demand for realism grows bigger as magazines are mostly feeding us with amazing editorial pictures of perfect models with expensive clothes. Andy says that “we want to see clothes on real people, and we want to see what people around the world is wearing. Most importantly we want to see clothes that we can afford!”.
This phenomenon, combined with the accessibility of blogging creates a growing opportunity for everyday heroes to pop up in the blogosphere. We tend to like people we can relate to, so these people, who are doing this on their own with a very limited budget, becomes the idols to look up to, as we could be those people ourselves one day.
Going from an unemployed fashion wannabe to an ego-blogger with over a million readers, she gives some advice on how your blog could grow.
- You need great content with professional photos! Post often, if not every day, as often as you can or people will forget about you. The moment people can relate and connect to you they will come back.
- You need a strong social network! Advertise yourself and tell people you are there and ask them to come to your blog. Go to all your favorite blogs and advertise yourself. Post on Twitter and Facebook as they are big traffic generators. It won’t happen over night, but your traffic will grow incrementally over time, so be persistent!
- Be yourself! Don’t try to copy others, because they are much better at being themselves.
